Deductive and inductive data collection for agent-based modelling: A Dairy Supply Chain Case Study

چکیده
This study compares the use of the deductive approach (questionnaire) and the inductive approach (role playing games) in the calibration of an agent-based model (ABM) and studies their effects on model validity and utility. ABM is a modelling methodology that puts emphasis on stakeholder behaviour (Samuelson, 2005). The validity of behavioural assumptions is critical in ABM because it increases the confident in the model for its use in decision making (Bendoly et al., 2006). Both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods have been used for ABM development (Robinson et.al, 2007; Yang & Gilbert, 2008). For example, Robinson et.al (2007) qualitatively compared the benefits of various data collection methods in eliciting stakeholder behaviour based on researcher experience. In our study, we make a quantitative comparison between deductive and inductive approaches by considering the following hypotheses:

Agent-Based Model Developed to Assess Supply Chain Agility (Case Study: Institute of Higher Education, Science and Research Branch of Tehran)
Agility of the supply chain is one of the main challenges in organizations which acting in a dynamic and complex environment, which they have to be able to answer to customers quickly. But the agility of supply chain is influenced by different agents. Using the model based on agent, this study has tried to simulate the agility of supply chain in an institute of higher education. There are three...

متن کاملA Hybrid Fuzzy Multi-criteria Decision Making Model Based on Fuzzy DEMATEL with Fuzzy Analytical Network Process and Interpretative Structural Model for Prioritizing LARG Supply Chain Practices
In recent years, taking advantage of LARG supply chain (SC) paradigm, a combination of four paradigms (clean, agile, resilience and green) has been increasingly employed. For capturing the advantages of LARG in SC, companies needed to recognize proper practices and implement them with appropriate planning and infrastructure. However, one of its deficiencies is lack of proper method in the prior...

Nowadays, manufacturers need to satisfy consumer demands in order to compete in the real world. This requires the efficient operation of supply chain planning. On the other hand, increasing worldwide environmental, lack of food resources and social concerns are motivating manufacturers and consumers to implement recycling strategies such as product recovery, waste management, or usage of recycl...
